Anthracinum
By Adolph von Lippe — Keynotes and Red Line Symptoms of the Materia Medica
Common name: anthrax poison.
It is one of the most efficacious remedies for boils, abscesses, felons, or swellings of any kind, when there are intense burning pains (Ars., Tarant-C., Sulph.) (N.).
Hæmorrhages: black, thick, tar-like, rapidly decomposing, from any orifice (Lach., Lept.) (C.).
Malignancy: Terrible burning pains, with great prostration (Apis, Ars., Lach., Phos., Sulph., Tarant-C.) (B.).
THE AFFECTED PARTS BURN, AS THOUGH ON FIRE (Bl.).
WE HAVE SWELLINGS ON ALL PARTS OF THE BODY, AND ONE OF THE MOST CHARACTERISTIC CONDITIONS IS THE COLOUR OF THEM. THEY ARE BLUISH, VERGING INTO BLACK (Lach., Tarant-C.) (N.).
Black and blue blisters (C.).
Bad effects from inhaling foul odours (C.).
Succession of boils (Merc., Sil., Sulph.) (B.).
Discharge of ichorous, offensive pus (Ars., Carb-Ac., Merc-C., Nit-Ac.) (A.).
Glands swollen, cellular tissues œdematous and indurated (Apis, Brom., Carb-An., Merc-I., Rhus-T., Sil., Tarant-C.) (C.).
"Erysipelas" of a malignant type (A.).
"In all cases, simulating septic fever or poisoning, Arsenicum, Anthracinum and Pyrogen should be remembered. The horrible BURNING PAINS of the first two are prominent" (N.).
Gangrenous parotitis (Apis, Ars., Lach., Tarant-C.) (C.).
SEPTIC FEVER: RAPID LOSS OF STRENGTH, SINKING PULSE, DELIRIUM AND FAINTING (Pyrog.) (A.).
Suspicious insect stings. If the swelling changes colour and red streaks from the wound map out the course of lymphatics (Lach., Pyrog.) (A.).
Gangrenous ulcers (Ars., Carb-Ac., Carbo-V., Kali-P., Lach., Lyc., Merc-C., Nit-Ac., Phos., Sec., Sulph.) (A.).
Dissecting wounds: especially if tendency is to become gangrenous (Ars., Pyrog.) (A.).
Felon; the worst cases, with sloughing and terrible burning pains (Ars., Carb-Ac., Lach.) (A.).
Arsenicum sometimes fails in "carbuncles". Then we have to resort to Anthracinum, chiefly in the thirtieth potency. It has precisely the same symptoms as Arsenicum, but to a more intense degree (F.).
AGGRAVATION: From cold application (better from cold application- Apis, Flour-Ac., Led., Phos., Puls., Sec.).
AMELIORATION: From hot application. (Worse from cold application: Ars., Lach., Sil., Syph.).
RELATIONSHIP. Similar to: Ars., Carb-Ac., Crot-H., Echin., Lach., Pyrog., Rhus-T., Sec., and Tarant-C.
Silicea follows it well.
