THROAT
- The neck becomes thick when speaking loud, 4. [260.]
- The post-mortem showed a separable orange-yellow patch on the uvula and arch of the palate, consisting of a thin but firm membrane easily detached; this patch was confluent with one on the posterior wall of the pharynx, and extended increasing in thickness into the œsophagus and trachea; the mucous membrane under this membrane was hyperæmic but not swollen; the epiglottis was covered with a thick false membrane, the mucous membrane eroded, dark-red, with many swollen pustules, the submucous membrane œdematous but relaxed; the ventriculi Morgagnii closed by swelling and covered with a similar false membrane; the mucous membrane here was also intensely red and injected, a similar distinct membrane on the vocal cords, and a portion of the larynx beneath; the trachea free from the membrane; the whole extent of the bronchi, even to their finest divisions, inflamed and filled with tenacious mucus; the mucous membrane not diminished but greatly swollen, injected, and showing on every section numerous small points of (apparent) pus, which however might be considered masses of mucus; a high degree of acute emphysema between all the lobules of the lungs. The whole œsophagus from the pharynx to the stomach was covered with a continuous false membrane, orange-colored, firm and detachable; the submucous connective tissue contained here and there phlegmonous purulent spots, 64.
- Increased secretion of mucus in the throat, with rough voice, 2.
- Subjective.
- Dryness of the throat, 45.
- Dryness, burning, and constriction in the throat, 50.
- Pain low down in the throat, 45.
- Burning in the throat, 11.

ABDOMEN

- The left hypochondriac region is hard and acutely painful to pressure, 4.*

URINARY ORGANS
- The urine passed the day after the accident was amber-colored, specific gravity 1038, somewhat strongly acid, throwing down on cooling a slightly flocculent sediment, amorphous under the microscope. The addition of acetic or nitric acid to the urine produced a copious amorphous precipitate, soluble in excess of nitric acid and on the application of gentle heat. On subsequent cooling a precipitate again fell, and was found to consist of yellow halberts of uric acid mixed with fine granular matter. No precipitate was obtained on boiling. No albumen. There was large excess of urea. Mr. Stewart obtained good reactions of iodine, combined, not free, and of indican. A day later the specific gravity had fallen to 1025; the other actions were a before, 69.
