MIND
- Great nervous excitability and trembling of the whole body, with pulse at 120 (fourteenth day), 4.

- Pain in the orbits of both eyes; worse on pressure (seventh day), 4.
- Dull pain in the orbit of right eye, as if bruised, and worse upon pressure (twelfth day), 4.

- Lids and Ball.
- Soreness of the eyelids (twenty-fourth day), 1c.
- Soreness of the lids, with the stuffed-up nose (thirty-fifth day), 1.
- Œdema of eyelids, on rising (second day); œdema and redness of eyelids, after rising (fourth day), 7.
- Unnatural sense of dryness of the eyelids, continuing for several hours (sixth day), 2.

NOSE

- Sudden discharge of clear water from the left nostril, without pain, about ten or twelve drops, 1a.
- Sudden discharge of yellowish water from the right nostril, about a dozen drops, repeated twice within the hour, but not so much in quantity, at 11.30 A.M. (second day), 1c.
- Profuse discharge of sanious mucus from left nostril, continuing all day (third day); discharge not so copious; the right nostril is now affected (fourth day); not so copious or watery (seventh day; not so profuse, but of a greater consistence), (tenth day), 3.
- Thick discharge from the nose (thirty-fourth day), 1. [160.]
- Considerable discharge from nose, and partial stoppage (forty-ninth day); for several days past considerable discharge from the nose, with obstinate stoppage (fifty-third day), 1.

- Pain in right side of face, with slight swelling and stiffness, as if a boil would form; sore and tender when touched (eighty-fourth day), 1.
- Pain in right side of face; neuralgia (fifth day), 1c.
- Awoke in the night with sharp attack of faceache, the right side of cheek; violent aching pain, with much heat and thirst (eleventh day), 1c.
- Inclination to faceache; sudden, fine drawing and shooting pain, subacute (seventeenth day), 1c.
- Faceache on going to bed, very severe, almost driving one to distraction, consisting of an aching, sore, bruised sensation, as if ulcerated, in the left side of the face and temple, passing off in about an hour (twenty-fourth day), 1c.
- Faceache in the night; unable to sleep; severe aching pain in the left side of the face, worse on getting warm in bed; violent, bruised, aching pain in the right side of the face, on getting warm walking, easier every few minutes; pain entirely gone from left side of face (twenty-sixth day), 1c.
- Violent attack of faceache, both sides of face; most intense, indescribable pain; head seemed to be swollen; relieved by Platina (after six weeks), 1c.
- Cheeks and Lips.
- Left cheek swollen and gums inflamed (eighty-fourth day), 1.
- Drawing pain in right malar bone, recurring several times (fifth day), 3.
- At 11 A.M., having an eruption on the lips, dry, scaly, and violent burning and tension; more the inferior one; the burning of the lower lip passed off within an hour, and returned but little again (first day), 2. [180.]
- Lips have been livid, dark, sickly, and rough for many days (twelfth day), 2.
- Watery bladder on the upper lip, as from cold (twenty-eighth day), 1.
- Lip feels slimy (forty-fifth day), 1.
- Front and upper jaw a kind of tingling as if in the nerves; this symptom before going to sleep, but was not continued or very marked (first night), 10a.
MOUTH
- Teeth.
- Since taking the medicine there has been very rapid decay of the teeth; the filling has fallen out of two; easily bleeding gums; teeth feel elongated in the morning, and then ache from 2.30 to 4 P.M. each day; the pain is sharp stabbing, and contact along the course of the superior branch of the trifacial nerve is sensitive and readily excites pain, and he cannot lie on that side of the face at night (after a month), 7.
- Sordes on the teeth, as if mixed with blood (seventeenth day); sordes having the appearance of white mucus (eighteenth day), 6.
- Grinding of the teeth, with the restless sleep (thirteenth night), 4.
- Grinding of the teeth whilst asleep; (this symptom occurred very frequently during the whole proving), 4.
- Shooting pain in the teeth (twenty-sixth day), 1c.
- Dull boring pain in left molar of lower jaw (tenth day), 4. [190.]
- Pain in the exposed nerve of a front tooth for a short time only (third day), 10a.
- Toothache on the left side of the face, before and after breakfast; went off in the forenoon, and returned again after dinner, for an hour or two (second day); toothache, left side, sound and decayed teeth, upper and lower jaw, all the morning (third day; toothache again severely, left side, upper bicuspid and molar teeth, extending to the face; comes on after rising and washing (fourth day); as before, but slight (fifth day); toothache and dull faceache during morning, till after 2 P.M. (tenth day), 2a.
- Aching of some decayed teeth in the lower jaw of the left side, after dinner (seventh day), 2.
- Toothache in the left upper molars at night; fine drawing pain, feeling as if it were going to throb (sixteenth day), 1c.
- Slight toothache on rising, hardly to be noticed, but after going to college, it gradually increased, until noon it was severe; my cheek became considerably swollen; I had constant discharge of saliva from my mouth after 12 M.; this pain was in a decayed tooth; but the teeth on each side were sound, and so elongated that it was with much difficulty and pain that I could eat my dinner; little or no pain in the tooth at night (seventh day); there was slight pain in the tooth, but again toward noon it increased very much, and again with the same flow and drooling of saliva from the mouth; there were some soreness and tenderness of the other teeth on eating (eighth day); not much of the toothache left (ninth day); toothache all gone; but the swelled cheek remained (tenth day); the tooth was the second large molar of the superior maxillary of the left side, .

- Inclination to toothache in left side of lower jaw in decayed double tooth (fifty-third day), 1.
- Grumbling in teeth of left side before breakfast; violent pain after eating (fourth day); pain in teeth of left side (fifth day); toothache during the forenoon; intervals of perfect ease, five to ten minutes (sixth day), 7.

- General Mouth.
- Breath very offensive, putrid (eighty-fourth day), 1.

- Saliva and Taste.
THROAT
- Profuse secretion of mucus in the throat, with frequent hawking of mucus (after a month), 7.
- On waking, feeling of rawness in the throat; relaxed, with sensation as if I had taken cold (second day), 1c.
- Feeling in the throat as of a slight swelling deep down on the right side (fifth day), 1c.
- Slight rawness and soreness of throat; relaxed sensation, with slight acrid expectoration (tenth day), 1c.
- Throat much worse; intense soreness and relaxed feeling, with considerable hoarseness; constant desire to clear the throat of tenacious, white phlegm; burning, acrid taste; obliged to cough and scrape the throat for that purpose; throat raw (eleventh day), 1c. [230.]
- Throat relaxed, sore feeling as if raw and had taken a bad cold, with hoarseness and irritating cough (twenty-sixth day), 1c.
- Huskiness in the throat, with accumulation of very tenacious phlegm; unable to clear the throat, with slight, sore burning feeling (after twenty minutes, second day), 1b.
- Awoke with huskiness and soreness in the throat, with rawness and irritation; difficulty of clearing the throat, feeling as if I had taken cold (fourth day), 1b.
- Dryness and huskiness in the throat, which lasted about an hour, in the morning on arising (fifteenth day), 3.
- Slight huskiness in throat (twenty-eighth day), 1.
- Dryness in the throat, on rising, in the morning; disappeared in the afternoon (third day), 3.
- On rising in the morning, dryness of the throat (ninth day), 3.
- Dryness and soreness of the throat and mouth, mucous membrane of nose (third day), 7.
- During all day hard a dry, parched throat (seventh day); also in the evening; a draught of air irritates and produces cough (tenth day), 9.

- Eructations.
- Frequent empty eructations (seventh day), 11.
- Frequent empty eructations, with slight rumbling in the bowels and occasional emissions of flatus (third day), 3.
- Eructations empty (fifteenth day), 3.
- Frequent eructations of wind, continued for three weeks (ninth day), 4.
- On getting up, in the morning, I noticed I had constant eructations, which tasted very strong of sulphur, a symptom that I never had before; this eructation lasted me all day, and during the forenoon the sulphur taste was always present; afternoon it changed its character, the sulphur taste was gone, but I had a strong taste of carbonic acid gas, as much so as if I had drank a bottle of well-charged soda water; this gas was in large quantities, and was eructated in intervals of from five to fifteen minutes apart; after supper, part of this gas passed down to the bowels, causing great boring pain, and passing off with a strong effluvium of sulphuretted hydrogen, the eructations still continuing; on lying down, there was a constant rumbling and passing of this gas in the intestines, without a desire to pass it off; they appeared to be inflated and filled with gas (fifth day), 8a.
- Nausea and Vomiting.
- Feeling of nausea, at 9 A.M. (second day), 1a.
- Feeling of nausea, as if going to have a bilious attack, with inclination to diarrhœa (fifth day), 1c. [270.]
- Nausea, with the irritable mood (twenty-ninth day), .
ABDOMEN
- Hypochondria.
- Woke at 6 A.M. with severe pain in the left hypochondriac region; continued half an hour (fifth day), 2.
- Pain in the left hypochondriac region, at 6 P.M. (seventh day), 9.
- About the middle of the day a pain in the left hypochondriac region (eleventh day), 9.
- Slight transient pains in the left hypochondrium (fourth day), 4. [290.]
- Pain in the left hypochondrium (sixth day), 4.
- Slight pains in the right hypochondrium (fifth day), 3.
- Pains in the hypochondria continuing all day; not so bad in the afternoon (ninth day), 3.

- Umbilicus and Sides.
- Great soreness and tenderness of the navel, as if ulcerated; can't bear my clothes (second day), 1c.
- Cutting pain over the navel (eighteenth day), 1.
- Sore pain under the navel (eighteenth day), 1.
- Cutting pain in the bowels, above the navel, as if diarrhœa would come on (thirtieth day), 1. [300.]
- Excessively tender spot just under the navel when touched, felt in the evening, when going to bed (fifty-sixth day), 1.
- Very sharp sudden griping-drawing pain in the left side of the navel, causing me to cry out, at 9.30 (fourth day), 1b.
- Severe colic pain in the left side of the abdomen, deep beneath the cartilage of the floating ribs, increased by deep inspiration and by lying on that side; came on at 4 P.M.; continued all night and to day; occasional eructations, which do not relieve the pain (tenth day), 2.
- Dull pressing pain on both sides of abdomen, about Poupart's ligament (soon after first dose, fourth day), 10.
- At 9 A.M. boring pain in or near the umbilicus, which lasted fifteen minutes (ninth day), .
RECTUM AND ANUS
- Partial prolapse of rectum during stool (three hours after first dose, fourth day), 10.
- Sometimes a sharp cutting pain in the rectum (seventeenth day), 3.
- Pains in the rectum and lumbar region (seventeenth day), 6.
- Sharp cutting or pungent pain in the lower part of the rectum, at 4 P.M. (sixteenth day), 3.
- Bearing down and burning in old piles, with diarrhœa pains, all the afternoon (eighteenth day), 1.
- Violent purgings of the anus, caused by old piles (twenty-eighth day), 1. [350.]
- Discharge of bright-colored blood from the anus during stool rather freely, but no pain (fifteenth day); discharge of blood with every motion for two or three days in succession (twenty-fourth day), 1c.
- Violent attack of bleeding from the anus, in the morning, after getting up, without pain; while at stool, passed from four to six ounces of pure bright-colored blood in a perfect stream, and again, about midday, one or two ounces; the blood has since shown itself several times, but very little (after six weeks), 1c.
- Feel as if diarrhœa would set in (seventh day), 10a.
- Inclination to diarrhœa, with slight pain in the lower part of the bowels, cutting, at 9 o'clock (third day), 1c.
- Inclination to diarrhœa with the nausea (fifth day), 1c.
- Inclination to diarrhœa (sixth day), 1c.
- Inclination to diarrhœa at 9 A.M., with cutting pain under the navel at 1 P.M. (second day), 1a.
STOOL
- Diarrhœa, with discharge of bright blood, with painful urging (dysentery), as if the gut would protrude (after two hours and a quarter, second day), 1a.
- Diarrhœa discharge, brown color, fermented frothy motion, with urging, with the violent griping pain in the bowels (after five hours, second day), 1b.
- Slight discharge of bright blood with motion, no pain at 8 A.M. (second day), 1a. [360.]
- Blood passed during stool (seventh day), 10a.
- Watery diarrhœa, brown color, with excoriation of the anus (eighteenth day), 1.
- *About 10 P.M. had a very watery stool, with very little pain or desire for stool (fifth day); about 1 A.M. I had a stool, also one about daylight; they were watery first, then thicker and more papescent, then watery again, and so on; also passed a large quantity of wind (sixth day); I had a similar operation (seventh and eighth days), 8a.
- Loose stool every day, and sometimes twice a day, with some pain in the rectum, and slight colic before stool, 8.
- Quite loose stool, but yet passed with some considerable straining and effort (fourth day); no stool (eighth day); loose stool followed the uneasiness in bowels (ninth day); this morning, loose urgent stool; none yesterday, and no indications (eleventh day), 2.
- Loose stools, but accompanied with straining, and only passed with much effort; this symptom yet remains after three weeks, 6a.
- Looseness of the bowels (fourth, fifth, and sixth days); stools of a normal character, though frequent (seventeenth day), 6.
- Bowels acted unusually free (fifty-seventh day), 1.
- Bowels confined for three days (eighth day), 4.

URINARY ORGANS

- Pain in muscles of right arm, chiefly below the elbow (after three hours, fourteenth day), 3.
- Pain in the deltoid muscle of the left arm (after four hours, fourteenth day), 3.
- Elbow and Forearm.

- In the evening, on lying down, sudden boring rheumatic pains in the carpal bones of the left hand; then shifting to the right ditto, then down to right tarsal, then to left ditto; these pains continued shifting in rapid succession for several hours; on getting up and walking about the room the pains would all disappear (fifth day), .
INFERIOR EXTREMITIES
- Stiffness in left knee and a pain on stooping; could hardly rise again (twenty-fourth day); knee symptoms continued even since, but not quite so bad to-day (twenty-seventh day); pain in the left knee, when walking or stooping (twenty-eighth day); pain in the knee still when moving it (twenty-ninth day). Five years ago, I severely sprained it in jumping, which lamed me for several weeks, but have not felt anything of it until now ; the pain now is just as it was then, and I know of no other cause; for it; I believe the medicine is trying it. Left leg still painful when stooping (thirty-second day); rather worse (thirty-third day); leg worse, can hardly use it; painful when stretching it out (thirty-fourth day); rather easier; on stretching the left leg, the stiffness in centre of hollow of knee is like stretching a cord; great pain in knee on stooping; cannot squat with left leg, it being so stiff, and when stooping a little, have no strength to get up with it; leg worse in the evening (thirty-fifth day); leg better after sleeping and resting it (thirty-sixth day); better but very stiff (thirty-seventh day); not so painful (thirty-eighth day); better, but painful when stretched (thirty-ninth day); very stiff on bending, and almost powerless to rise (forty-first day); still stiff, can bend it better after a night's rest; much worse, cannot use it without very considerable pain; have walked to-day about two miles; after sitting down, it was intensely painful on rising; slightly better on moving about (forty-third day); leg getting quite useless, obliged to rest it, and put my hand to help move it (forty-fourth day); very stiff, feels as if it had been dislocated at knee; cannot bent it without pain (forty-fifth day); the pain has been sometimes better, and sometimes very painful for the last three or four days (forty-ninth day); leg still very weak and painful, unable to walk fast or run; pain under left ham on stretching the leg (fifty-third day); leg better but stiff, with at times slight pain (sixty-first day); left leg still very weak (seventy-sixth day), 1.
- Thigh.
- Bruised sensation on the top of both thighs, when walking, as if from over walking, passing off on walking fast; difficulty at first in doing so (twenty-fourth day), 1c.
- Drawing pain in the posterior muscles of the right thigh, with tenderness on pressure (tenth day), 4. [490.]
- A sharp, shooting pain, passing from the trochanter major of the right leg into the hip-joint (eighteenth day), 11.
- Knee.
- Boring pain in the right knee (tenth day), 4.
- Pain in right knee-joint and in right side, at irregular intervals, in the evening (fifteenth day), .
PLANTAGO. GENERALITIES
- Disposition to stretch, with the chilliness (after seven hours, sixth day), 3.
- Dull and sleepy (forty-fourth day), 1.
- At 4 P.M., felt dull and stupid, with an inclination to stretch and yawn frequently, accompanied with an oppression of the chest and aversion to mental or physical exercise; these symptoms were relieved by walking in the open air (sixteenth day), 3.
- Great restlessness and inquietude (third day), 7.
- Impossible to keep quiet in any position one minute; whilst seated would constantly change position, particularly the lower extremities, which became numb, tremulous, and painful when quiet, and pass off on changing positions (tenth day), 4.

- Almost irresistible desire to lie in bed from general depression and weariness (fourth day), 2a.
- Unwilling to get up, in the morning (seventeenth day), 1.

- Painful weariness and prostration, especially in the loins and lower extremities, all day and night (third day), 2a.

- Feeling of weakness and faintness, after use of bowels (fifteenth day), 1c.
- At present I am in a very weak state; my muscular strength, which was very great (being able to work at the most difficult gymnastic exercises for hours together, without fatigue, and to lift with either arm upright, over my head, many times in succession, a fifty-six pound weight), has almost entirely left me, and all my endurance seems gone (after six weeks), 1c.
- Felt languid and uneasy through the day (second day), 7.
- Faint and tremulous feelings, particularly on the least exercise (ninth day), 4. [520.]
- Faint and tremulous feeling, with nausea (tenth day), 4.
- Sinking faint feeling, after a meal (thirty-fifth and thirty-six days), 1.

- In the first days of the proving, the pains come on at night, and are on the left side, extending backward to the body or head; but after some days they are continued through the entire day, affect both sides of the body, and do not extend backward constantly, but often across, from one side to the other, as in the head, from one temple to the other, .
SKIN
- Integuments of the face and head seem unnaturally rigid (fifth day), 2.
- Eruptions.
- Red blotches that burn on rubbing, 3.
- On shaving, the face, which is quite tender, is observed to have an eruption of small, reddish, rough, scaly, erythematous patches, the size of a pea (resembling barber's itch), scattered about on the left side only of the face, and most near the commissure of the lips; no decided pain or itching, but an unpleasant sense of tension (seventh day); eruption on the face less prominent, yet rough (eighth day), 2.
- Several papulæ have sprung up around the nose, which are red, and smart when touched, one at the base of each ala, and two on the septum narium (seventh day); the papulæ exude a yellowish humor which soon forms a crust (eighth day); eruption drying up (tenth day), 3.
- About the twelfth day, an eruption broke out about the lips and thighs, particularly on the inside of the thigh; the papulæ are isolated, hard, white, and flattened; some of them have a small red point in the centre; they itch slightly on first making their appearance; when scratched, the itching becomes more violent, and a burning sensation supervenes; a deep redness is diffused through the part, which lasts about five minutes; in several hours they become more elevated or acuminated, and finally, in about twenty-four hours, gradually disappear without suppuration or desquamation, and others spring up. Several of these papulæ also made their appearance on the wrist and between the fingers. The eruption continues to the present time (seventeenth day). Several pimples also made their appearance on the prepuce; the itching is always worse during the afternoon and evening; not after going to bed. The eruptions till continues on the thighs; also on the wrists, between the fingers, and on the prepuce, which latter itches excessively, in the morning, on rising; itching always worse in a warm room; also in the evening and morning (nineteenth day). The pimples usually disappear in twenty-four hours, and give place to others; they are always isolated, white, and flattened, on their first appearance, becoming more elevated when scratched; a redness diffuses itself through the part, which remains sometimes ten or fifteen minutes (twentieth day); eruption still continues the same (twenty-second day), 3.
- Eruption of small pimples on the chin (twenty-eighth day), 1.
- A pimple on upper lip (fortieth day), 1.
- One or two very small sore pimples on the face, loins, and seat, pricking like a pin on touching (seventeenth day), 1c. [550.]
- Small boil on right shoulder-blade (forty-first day); painful (forty-second day); not so painful (forty-third day); no pain whatever, but slight soreness when touched (forty-fourth day); boil quite gone (forty-fifth day), .
SLEEP
- Sleepiness.
- Excessive and continued yawning , for one hour after lying down (thirteenth day), 4.

- Since commencing this proving I have not slept so well; I used seldom or never to wake in the night; now I frequently do (thirty-eighth day); sleep better (fortieth day), 1.

- Highest degree of excitability; high fever; strong bounding pulse, 120; sensation of great heat, with thirst (here I should say, that for the last week I have been obliged to get up every night and drink), imagining the room to be very hot and close; oppression of the chest, with rapid respiration; difficulty of breathing, as if there were no air in the room; pacing backward and forward in the room in the greatest anxiety, then throwing myself on the bed, and rolling from one side to the other in the greatest mental agony, without really knowing why; continued in this state till 1 A.M., when I fell asleep; after which, would frequently wake up from the most vivid, horrible, and frightful dreams (twenty-first night), 4.
- Fever, perspiration, and burning feet, with the restlessness (sixteenth night), 1.
- Considerable fever, with the dull painful stupid feeling in head (seventh day), 8a.
